KUALA LUMPUR: “Excited and overwhelmed” were the words that American
band My Chemical Romance used to describe their arrival in Malaysia for
their concert at Stadium Merdeka tonight.

At a 30-minute press conference held at the Traders Hotel, four of the
five band members — guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, vocalist Gerard
Way, and his younger brother, bassist Mikey Way — talked about their
experience in their concert tour so far.

“It
is exciting going somewhere for the first time, and it’s overwhelming,
too,” said Gerard about the group’s stopover in Malaysia.

“I never expect to travel to countries where you can’t even spell the name,” added Iero.

My Chemical Romance, established in 2001 as an underground
band, rose to prominence when their first album — I Brought You
Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love (produced in 2003) — became a hit.
Their
second album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, produced in 2004, sold
two million records worldwide, and spawned three singles — Helena, I’m
Not Ok (I Promise) and The Ghost Of You.

This was quickly
followed by The Black Parade, released last year, featuring their
worldwide number one hit Welcome To The Black Parade.

The
band cites classic rock band Queen, English singer-songwriter
Morrissey, and heavy metal band Iron Maiden among their major musical
influences.

Singing with dark lyrics and characteristic vocal
murmurs that break into a wail, the band has been described as “emo” (a
term used to describe rock groups of this genre) — something that
Gerard refutes.

“We are very exclusive, and we’re very
proud of that. The term is commercially-generated, and we’re getting
the label only after we became famous.”

Close to
10,000 tickets have been sold so far for the band’s concert here
tonight. The band will perform in Singapore on Dec 11.

“We
are considering Vietnam, Hong Kong and South America, and maybe the
United States as well before taking our time off,” said Gerard.

Source

Norfolk, Va. - To honor Hawthorne
Heights guitarist Casey Calvert, who died unexpectedly last Friday, peta2, the
world's largest youth animal rights organization, has posted a memorial page on
its Web site, peta2.com. On the site, fans can view a video
tribute to Calvert, which includes previously unreleased footage from his last
interview with peta2. Calvert was an enthusiastic member of peta2's Street
Team--an international network of young
activists--and peta2 is calling on his fellow Street Teamers
around the world to make Saturday, December 8, an international day of action in
Calvert's memory.

Described by friends as "kind," "sweet," and "the nicest guy you'd ever
meet," Calvert was a passionate defender of animal rights and loyal peta2

before Hawthorne Heights had reached critical acclaim, and he continued his
activism even during his hectic touring schedule.

In 2006, Calvert recorded a peta2 public service announcement (PSA)
encouraging fans to go vegetarian. "You'll ... be smarter, healthier, funnier,
and better-looking," he quipped. He later recorded a PSA urging people to
boycott KFC until it adopts basic animal welfare reforms. Always distributing
peta2 literature and stickers at concerts, Calvert even designed his own stencil
that read, "peta2 Is for Animal Lovers"--a play on the
band's popular song "Ohio Is for Lovers."

Calvert and his wife were proud guardians of rescued dogs and cats and
staunch supporters of adopting homeless animals from animal shelters and rescue
groups. On peta2's site, fans are urged to take the "veg pledge," and peta2 is
also urging those who wish to honor Calvert's memory to volunteer at their local
animal shelters on December 8.

"Casey was always coming up with new ideas for helping animals and was eager
to do whatever he could to help," says Dan Shannon, assistant director of youth
campaigns. "He educated thousands of young people about cruelty to animals and
inspired them to get active. He will truly be missed."

Let’s face it. It is commonly known punk and metal became popular
because the fan bases of all those bands were social outcasts or
misfits that were attracted to the music or culture. Looking back when
those genres started, fans were genuine and believed in the lifestyle.
Today with trendier bands like My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy,
their fans are social robots who are not attracted to the subculture of
the underground. They are only mindlessly attracted to these bands
since Hot Topic sells their clothes and their local radio station play
the stuff. Ugh! Slipknot is rarely played on the radio. Their fan base
seems to be the laughing stock of society thus they become the true
misfits of the current subculture based on their attitude and how they
dress. Thus today’s true punk are fans of bands like Slipknot. Maybe
even your goth enemy.

Source

guitarist Casey Calvert boarded a bus with his band mates Friday
morning to start their "Wintour 07," a grueling schedule of
back-to-back concert dates that was to include a show in Washington on
Saturday night.

But the fast-rising indie group, which finished up a show in Detroit
on Friday night, never got a chance to perform for local fans. D.C.
police were called to the 9:30 Club in Northwest Washington about 2:30
p.m. Saturday and found Calvert unconscious on the band's tour bus,
according to Officer Junis Fletcher, a police spokesman.

Calvert, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene, Fletcher said. Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Family, friends and fans were reeling from the news.

Fan tributes poured in at the Hawthorne Heights Web site, www.hawthorneheights.com,
where band members Eron Bucciarelli, Micah Carli, Matt Ridenour and JT
Woodruff announced that their "quirky and awesome" best friend had

members' posting said.

Reached at the family home in Middletown, Ohio, Calvert's stepmother, Tammy Calvert, said the family was in shock and mourning.

In
addition to his stepmother, Casey Calvert is survived by his wife, two
stepsisters and his mother and father, Tammy Calvert said.

Calvert
picked up a love of music from his father, Greg, a member of Gary and

It was catchy. I loved the way Tom Higgenson was dressed. He looked like every little boy I grew up with in the 80's taht was trying to emulate Michael Jackson in his pre-pedo phase. I also never realized how much he looks like the nerdy kid from Can't Hardly Wait.

- Gym Class Heroes. So entertaining. I always enjoy their shows. Travis' cousin is terrible, though. I'm just telling the truth. I get that Marc is getting the surrogate band member status because of his awesome flag-waving skills but I think Travis' big teddy bear heart needs to be a bit more selective. Highlight of their set was Patrick coming out for Clothes Off, of course. Travis has grown leaps and bounds as an entertainer. He's got the moves and the timing down pat. He kept me in stitches. It was great.

- Fall Out Boy. Fantastic set. Highlight was the acoustic performance. I loved it. Patrick seemed more in charge and confident on stage than I've ever seen him before. Pete did the talking but Patrick was the one that ran the show. His singing voice has improved so much as has his vocal range. Pete didn't do his lame jokes and so big high-five there. The kid's great but it does bum me out a bit when he recycles his material during each show. Joe gave his :O face about a million and one times. I swear his mother never gave him the "your face is going to freeze like that" lecture. Mine did and that's why I try to keep my Pete sneers down to a minimum. I was so stoked over the cover of Mr. Brightside and, after Maria pointed it out, I gave props to Patrick's respect of Kanye's mother dying by eliminating "Hey Mama" from the set list. He's a good guy. Pete has gotten a lot more mobile on his rock boot and managed to keep Saturday being one of the most awesome show closing songs by jumping up on the barricade and showing some crowd love.
